banana blackberry cacao bread recipe + things.

hi!
here i am.
i'll be better about posting regularly...cross my ♥ and hope i'm not full of shit.

over the weekend i picked up a carton of the most delicious blackberries at the farmer's market but a few had gotten overripe.  so did a couple of bananas.  and i love bulk cacao.  hence:
i want to eat your insides.
crunchy outside!
i just made it up as i went, but if you'd like to give it a shot (i recommend a pinch or two of spice) here's the recipe:

banana blackberry cacao bread
2 c AP flour
3/4 c brown sugar
6 T unsalted butter
1 t baking soda
1/2 t salt
3 T liquid egg white (or sub 2 eggs)
2 ripe bananas
3/4 - 1 c blackberries
1/2 - 3/4 c cacao chips
preheat oven to 350. mix dry ingredients. mix wet ingredients. blend wet into dry. fold in blackberries and cacao chips. bake for approximately 30 minutes.
[bear in mind i used a silicone mold, which bakes considerably quicker and can be more finicky. use your eyes and toothpicks and happy baking:)]

more recipes to come if this is well received, i like cooking with healthy, organic ingredients all ze time.

since i'm apparently on par to update things monthly *sigh* here's yet another photo recap.

a few weeks ago i went mushroom foraging with friends...but it was unseasonably warm and dry at the time so we didn't find too much but we did manage:
an oyster mushroom:-D
 an endangered banana slug
to heed emphatic advice.

i also did a making strides against breast cancer walk for good measure:
lovely ladies.

aaand saw the seahawks kick some patriot ass from closer seats than i'll ever be able to afford:
completely worth the sniffles.
i also went paintball zombie hunting.  saw beach house play an amazering set.   helped organize a national coming out day at work.   saw the ramayana exhibition at the seattle asian art museum.  wrote a grant and got awarded monies (yayy!).  and...i can't remember de odder stuff.

strangers are fun.

playing catch up.

ahhh it's not that i haven't wanted to post, i'm just far too lazy and you know, i livin mah life.  as i'm nearing the end of my contracted period of employment, i am at a professional and personal crossroads.  the luxury of choice demands concrete decisions, and lukewarm prospects ain't cutting it.  happy thoughts and things only, please.

quick photo recap:

small kine secret sample at seattle tilth children's garden.
little ones picking edibles for tea!
pinball barside thrones.
david x. cohen, head writer of futurama:-D
canadian border sunset.
cutie face at the seattle aids walk.
what organizing a team really looks like.

i'm not short of options.

nihonjin gakusei volunteer week + mind grapes.

i went home for 10 days and hence have not posted.  forgive me, imaginary audience.  in all honesty, this won't be a particularly interesting post unless you have altruistic leanings; so if you don't, junk for you.
----
fresh off the plane and deliriously tired, i went to join a group of japanese exchange students at an adult elder/developmentally disabled day facility (one of very few funded by the state that covers a large geographic area and is perpetually on the chopping block, unfortunately) where students created calligraphy for and assisted adults with making origami.  the funny thing was one lady assumed that i also was a fluent japanese speaker because i'm asian.  although i tried to politely say i don't really know, she would still roll around and bellow, "hey you! hey you! how do you say, 'pain in the ass'?!" (referring to herself in a self-effacing joke, for context).  she was quite a card.  my pictures did not come out for this, crap.
----
the next day, i met everyone at a very large food distribution center that sorts and often repacks donated or resourced food to be distributed through local food banks.

900 lbs of french fry shovelling.
happy meal faces.
minna minna!
i think the volunteer coordinator said they repacked enough food for more than 2200 meals or something. well done.
----
the next morning we went to a section of the duwamish greenbelt to do some blackberry clearing with one of my favorite non-profits that marries art and culture with conservancy and restoration:
teamwork!
cleaning up the background.
industrious lads and lasses, the lot of them.
----
i'm housesitting, and the homeowners have a hot tub, housed in a greenhouse-type addition where i can sing and drink beer in a warm watery cocoon until the fingertip crinkles appear.  when i was a child, i used to think hot tubs held an allure i wasn't yet ready to understand.  i imagined two people, bathed in the dark of night and rising steam; hungry.  now, a public hot tub appears to me like a soup of fifty individuals' skin flecks, sweat, semen and urine.  i don't know if any amount of chlorine could reconstitute my sexy construct.  and i can't stand chlorine anyway.
----
i am unapologetically happy without condition and i feel so light and content.
----
i freaking love gogol bordello.  i want to travel the world with them in my headphones.  here's an oldie but a goodie:

and a new one of them coming rougher. everytime:

2012 seattle pride parade

sooo i went to the 2012 seattle erotic art festival on saturday, and unfortunately they did not allow much photography.  i know.  I KNOW.  suffice to say there was a lot of s&m and bondage photography, including items placed in body parts that did not look comfortable--a golf tee in the urethra is truly suffering for your art.  we missed a lot of the live acts but caught a bit of the aerial bondage and got zapped at the electric play demo.  i am so glad to live in such a sex positive city.

the next day i went to the 2012 seattle pride parade!  it was r e a l l y long but chockablock with strength in identity and love.  the thematic emphasis on the upcoming referendum 74 vote on marriage equality in november was also well integrated.  approve it.  okokok, here:

navy stilettos.
nude dudes.
blowing kisses.
high fliers.
m. bison.
mistressing.
derby duds.  or lack thereof, rather.
truth!
better late than never.
truck-top dancing queens.
pretty polo playtime.
city and colour and lightness.

tonight my body violently rejected unhealthy food (top, not bottom). $30 of bacalaitos, arroz con gandules and guava torte literally down the drain.

2012 fremont solstice parade + naked bicycle ride

i love seattle.  there is a constant reiteration of community and culture all the time, and yesterday i walked just a few blocks from home to see the opening event for the 2012 fremont solstice festival--which just happens to be an annual naked bicycle ride!  i saw a crazy impressive number of taataas and peepees adorned with some pretty inventive painting and embellishments:

aaand they're off!  after a quick pause.
wonderroohoos!
a true sportsman.
the no frills lineup.
there was an impressive showing of superheroes♥
the baby shoe stilts!
i think i need fabulous lessons.
there was no room for anything but love and peace 'round here.
how i want to see kids.
as close to a cotillion as i will ever get.
it was sososo difficult narrowing down the ones i loved to just ten (lest this entry become unwieldy), so if you have time to peruse more in the slideshow below, please do, it was frickin' rad.

my fingertips are holding on to the cracks in the foundation.

i went to visit a partner food bank last week and during the distribution there was:
room for secret smiles.
peeling back the icky parts.
----
i also met my family. i imagine we'll get on, incrementally.
this is my youngest brother.
and this is another brother who doles out ice cream faced swats at the camera.
----
an unmissed connection.

we met in cheap green fabric on two days' worth of rusty brown metal folding chairs and i remember where you live(d?), but don't recall your name.  i took your hand and we skipped the length of an empty outdoor mall in the middle of the night.  you looked so happy and i felt insouciant.  the stale piss in your toilet diminished everything else clean.  i chose sleep over you.  i woke up to you ironing crisp lines in a white cotton shirt.  i had cheap t-mobile excuses and you advised lots of liquids because you were an emt once and so sure i'd feel better soon.
